Intro to Filmmaking in VR “That’s Unreal!” Masterclass

Creating a film in Virtual Reality can seem like a daunting task, but we can show you where to start! 

Anibar, in its 11th edition, has opened the call for; Intro to Filmmaking in VR “That’s Unreal!” Masterclass lead by Mari Jaye Blanchard who is an independent animator and Assistant Professor of Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the School of Film and Animation and  Mark Reisch who is a 3D Animator whose work has been seen in several 3D Imax films including Lions 3D and Sea Monsters.

Description:

Creating a film in Virtual Reality can seem like a daunting task, but we can show you where to start!  In this Masterclass, we will examine one particular pipeline using some 2D and 3D elements and Unreal Engine to create the final build. Students will observe how some of the elements were created, and then have an opportunity to use those assets as they bring them into Unreal.  Anyone who wants to create their own world is welcome!

Masterclass lecturer: Mari Jaye Blanchard & Mark Reisch

Participants: 10 students or participants interested in film, art, and new technology 

Duration: 3-7 pm (21st of August 2020), during the Anibar Animation Festival.

 

Lecturers Background:

Mari Jaye Blanchard is an independent animator and Assistant Professor of Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the School of Film and Animation. Along with several of her own animated films which have screened internationally including festivals in Annecy, Melbourne and Berlin, she has created animations for Sesame Workshop, MTV, and Comedy Central. She is a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellow, an Asian American Arts Alliance UAI Fellow and a co-founder of the NYC animation collective Family Camp.


Mark Reisch is a 3D Animator whose work has been seen in several 3D Imax films including Lions 3D and Sea Monsters. He was part of the first team to successfully convert live action footage to 3D IMAX film. He worked on feature films, TV specials (including the History Channel’s Battle 360), and shorts. Mark’s interests and areas of focus include character animation, modeling and virtual reality (VR). He has recently collaborated with another faculty member on their first VR animated film which is a blend of 2D and 3D animation.

Eligibility:

-A resident of Kosovo, 16-24 year-old. 

-Available during 21st of August 2020

-Interest in film and art is essential.
