Feature Film Competition “Four Souls of Coyote”

The 14th edition of Anibar continues with the screening of the feature film competition.

The feature film screened on the 19th July is “Four Souls of Coyote” directed by Áron Gauder.

Set in the present day, Native American teenagers confront the crew of an oil pipeline project, just down the hill from the land of their ancestors. The grandfather evokes the ancient tale of their Creation myth, reminding all of us that the challenges facing humanity are universal, and that we need to find our place in the great circle of creatures.

The story of the grandfather revolves around the creation of the world and the interactions between various creatures, particularly focusing on the role of the creator and the coyote. The creator brings forth life, creates the earth and mountains. However, the coyote’s actions lead to conflicts, destruction, and the emergence of “civilization”.

Throughout the narrative, the movie suggests that the creator is both benevolent and punitive, bestowing life and imposing consequences for wrongdoing. The coyote represents the darker aspects of existence, engaging in acts of violence and deceit.

The story highlights the themes of creation, responsibility, and the consequences of one’s actions. It explores the relationship between humans and animals, as well as the impact of humans on the environment. The movie emphasizes the interconnectedness of all living beings.

As the narrative unfolds, the movie raises questions about the balance between progress and preservation, the necessity of hunting for survival, and the responsibility of humans towards the natural world.

The movie concludes with a reflection on the importance of harmony and respect for life. Overall, the film presents a thought-provoking exploration of creation, morality, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. It delves into deep philosophical and ecological themes, inviting viewers to reflect on their own place in the web of life.

Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of these remarkable films. Mark your calendars and make sure to join us at the screenings for the rest of the Feature Film Competition!
