Behind the scenes of Susi Jirkuff’s Work

Susanne Jirkuff, the award-winning Austrian animation, installation, and drawing artist gave a presentation about her impressive portfolio through Anibar’s Facebook page. She tells us that in order to tell a story beautifully, it is needed to use many methods such as drawings, video recording, animation, and more; explaining the reason behind her rich variety of artistry.

The audience of this presentation got to have a rare look behind her creative process. Susi showed us her deepest and fundamental inspirations, something that artists are not keen on revealing to the public. She says that music, especially the Beatles, was one of the main things that inspired her early work. Besides her inspirations, although hesitating a bit, she did not fail to show us “Orte so scheint es” which is her very first animation film.

Another theme that she was focused was the city in particular. She says that the city life is something that gives her material to create art as she starts playing “SIGGI”, one of her animated films. SIGGI is a series of animated interview that she recorded with her friends who had moved to cities from rural areas.

For other animation enthusiasts and students, this presentation can be re-watched on Anibar’s Official Facebook page.
