12th edition – An insight of all the activities taking place on Day 6

Only two days left until the end of the festival!

We started Wednesday similarly with the ones before, with our workshops at Halit Kasapolli school and at the youth center, at 10:00. All the participants of “Confessions of Isolations” got to share a lot of stories regarding this year’s theme-isolation, and how they have adjusted to the new life we have found ourselves in. They also talked about animation and how for them it’s a medium to express their experiences and stories.

“One frame at a time” was another workshop held today, by Joan Kamberaj. This workshop focuses on bringing still objects to life, and on using various materials to create videos by combining traditional and technological mediums.

“From one generation to the next” is hosted by Kaltrina Berisha, Vullnet Lleshi, Finesa Peja and Leonita Thaqi. This workshop is about teaching the participants to use Stop Motion, and to share the hosts’ knowledge gained from the Animation Academy.

The last workshop was “BARMOTION” by Gary Schwartz, where the participants continued to work on the very anticipated animated promo for the festival, as well as on perfecting the Stop Motion technique.

Yet another meet-up of “Coffee and Talks” took place in Exit Bar, where a lot of ideas and perceptions on the animation world were shared between participants, all while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Then, we went to Cinema Jusuf Gërvalla to catch the screening of our special program “YOU ANIMAL”. This feature film tells the story of Nimfa the pussycat and her boyfriend Roger, illustrating the ups and downs of their relationship.

Next, at Istref Begolli Theatre we screened the Kids Program 5, that included these movies: “Daisies and Sparrows”, “Warm Star”,“Ciganymesek/Valaha madarak voltunk”, “Made With Love” and “Merry grandmas”.

That was followed up by the Teens Program 5, also held at Istref Begolli Theater. Today only two movies were screened, “Mum is pouring rain” and “Umbrellas”.

For the first time during this edition, we held Panorama Out of Competition. This is a program curated by Anibar that entails beautiful animated shorts, such as “Friend of a Friend”, “The Flood”, “ANYHOW, ANYWAY”, “The intronauta”, “Valiant Heart” and “Darwin’s Notebook”.

Then, at Cinema Jusuf Gërvalla we screened a feature film, part of the Feature Film Competition. The title of the movie was “Kill it and Leave this town”, and it brought a very distinctive animation style and story to the screen.

“Animating towards the future” is our next panel that took place at Kino Lake. This panel was held by Shkëlqim Berisha dhe Krenare Lleshi, and it dealt with the topic of incorporating visual storytelling in our educational system.

Afterwards, we went back to the competitions. International Competition 5 took place at the Lake Cinema, where different movies from international creators were shown. The titles included “NORMAL”, “Affairs of the Art”, “Wet & Soppy”, “Kill Your Idioms”, “Yolk”, “My Galactic Twin Galaction”, “Urban Sphinx” and “Machinal”. Truly fascinating works that explored different themes and brought a lot of joy for everyone there.

We have officially started screening our category Animated Music Video Competition, because what is music without compelling visuals to go with it. “Tryin’ To Be A Girl”, “The Goose and the Common”, “A little too much”, Fearless Woman”, “Sunpan”, “Allinputs BLACKPITCH”, “Esperanza”, “Fire” and “Healer”, were screened as part of this category.

To close the day FLORENT V joined Anibar Dance Away to give us all a fun night. The music was blaring loud and everyone was having a great time dancing, talking and enjoying each-others company.
