Submissions Are Now Closed — And Wow, You Really Went for It

It’s official: the numbers are in. This year, we received 1,503 incredible films from around the world – a number that reflects the growing trust and love you all have for this little (but mighty) animation festival in Peja, Kosovo. They came pouring in with a wild mix of stories, styles and dimensions. Some of you even sent us animated music videos that are living rent free in our heads.

Here’s a breakdown of the submissions we received.

Competitive categories:
  • International competition- 463 films
  • Student competition- 559 films
  • Balkan competition- 25 films
  • Animated music videos- 83 films
  • Young audience competition- 98 films
  • Human rights competition- 29 films

That makes 1257 competitive entries folks.. but there are still some films left.

Non-competitive categories:
  • Experimental- 157 films
  • VR- 22 films
  • Animated documentaries- 33
  • Commissioned work- 34

Bringing the non-competitive total to 246, aka films that didn’t want to compete but came to stir things up (in a good way).

Films came in from all corners of the world, but the top five countries with the most entries were: France, United Kingdom, United States, South Korea and Hong Kong.

So what now?

We go into full goblin-mode; watching, curating, arguing over animation choices and of course, getting way too attached to 2-minute films. Stay tuned for the official selection and in the meantime get ready for the 14th till the 20th of July. And if you didn’t submit your films, why not come watch them with us in Peja..?
