For the 12th edition, Anibar Festival announces five international presentations about animation!

This year people will have the chance to attend the following presentations

Anibar International Animation festival will begin its 12th and most anticipated edition with a lot of surprises. One special surprise that we can announce now, are the five international presentations that will accompany the festival this year! Anibar International Animation Festival has become a bridge in connecting Kosovo to the international world of art, by putting it on the map as a country with wide artistic potential. That’s why we’re so happy that each year, we can present international presentations of world renowned animators to our local audiences. This year people will have the chance to attend the following presentations during Anibar Animation Festival:

“Expanded Animation” by Jürgen Hagler, scheduled on the 24th of July, at 12.00 at Kinema Jusuf Gervalla. Jurgen studied art education, experimental visual design and cultural studies at the University for Art and Design in Linz, Austria. He currently works as a professor of computer animation and animation studies in the Digital Media Department at the Hagenberg Campus of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. The presentation itself will aim to further explain the endless possibilities that lie within the world of animation. This presentation is supported by the Austrian Embassy in Pristina.

Because of travel restrictions, this presentation will be showcased remotely: Jurgen will talk to the audience from a screen.

In “The journey of a clitoris across the world”, Lori Malépart takes us into her creative process and the journey of a clitoris around the world. She will share with us some crunchy details on her creative approach starting from her first attempt in animation right until her first film The Clitoris (2016). She’ll also talk about her current projects at the National Film Board of Canada. Join us on the 25th of July at 12:00 to learn more about her artistic journey at Kinema Jusuf Gervalla. Lore Malépart will speak to the audience from the screen of the cinema. This presentation is made possible through the support of the Embassy of Canada to Croatia and Kosovo in Zagreb.

The third presentation is “Animated Documentaries” by Frédéric Schuld. This edition of the festival will welcome back Frédéric Schuld to give a presentation on animated documentaries. Given the extensive work that Frederic has on producing, and animating documentaries and the fast-developing trend in Kosovo to document events via the medium of animation, this presentation and Q&A will offer some great chances. Frédéric will talk about things like the difficult angles that the camera cannot capture, and about how to visualize abstract concepts of the human experience. Because of traveling restrictions due to the pandemic, this presentation will also be held online on the 26th of July at 12.00 at Kinema Jusuf Gervalla. This presentation is supported by the German Embassy in Pristina.

Mauro Carraro will be present to host a presentation called “Into 3D Animation”. After studying engraving, photography and graphic design at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Mauro continued his academic path in France. In 2010 he graduated from the renowned Supinfocom Arles where he studied CG animation. He now lives in Geneva, Switzerland, where he works at Nadasdy Film studio. His first professional animated short film “Hasta Santiago” was awarded as the Best Debut Film at Annecy Festival in 2014 and received over two dozen awards worldwide. Unlike the previous presentations, this one will be held in person on the 27th of July at 12.00 at Cinema Jusuf Gervalla. This presentation is supported by the Italian Embassy in Pristina and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Tirana.

Brooke Keesling is the Head of Animation Talent Development at Bento Box Entertainment. She has worked in the animation and VFX industry for decades as an artist, in production, in education, and in talent development. Brooke will give a presentation during the 12th edition of the festival on her experience as a woman working in the big animated series and her journey answering some of the main questions on how to enter the animation business. How can you get your foot in the door? Does art school matter? What should be in your portfolio, and how to get in touch working with the big fishes? With the potential of developing the animation industry in Kosovo this presentation will be focused on the creative industry community, increasing their knowledge, capacities, and equating them with marketable skills on this stage of creating an industry here. Brook will give this presentation live, at the 29th of July at 16.00 in Kinema Jusuf Gërvalla. This presentation is supported by the US Embassy in Pristina.

Jurgen Halger, Lori Malépart, Frédéric Schuld, Mauro Carraro and Brooke Keesling can’t wait to meet you during their international presentations! We are so happy that we can continue with the tradition of bringing our international friends to the festival. A tradition of multi cultural cooperation between nations, uniting through art is the remarkable driving force that still pushes forward the festival as well as the organisation. It all starts on the 23rd of July, you don’t want to miss it!
