Anibar International Animation Festival hits the streets and the screens with four special programs

This edition, we will be showcasing four special programs!

Anibar International Animation Festival is about to start with its 12th edition. This edition, we will be showcasing four special programs. These programs present different topics where one of them, “Variations of Isolation”, presents exactly the theme of this edition, “Isolation”. The four special programs are “Brazen”, “Variations of Isolation” and “YOU ANIMA!”.

Each and everyone of these special programs will showcase the themes they represent in a deeper sense. During the time of isolation, Anibar has received a stunningly large number of submissions from all around the world, most of which were a product of isolation itself. An isolated creator can come up with fascinating work, so now that all the creators have already finished their work, it’s time for it to see the light on our festival screens.

Brazen

The first of the special programs is Brazen. Brazen follows portraits of 30 women, each from different walks of life, running from the shadows, figuring out what they want to be. We have an astronaut, an empress, a lighthouse keeper. Because of the injustices and the isolation they had faced, now they are finally out there to tear down all the wrongness that had been done upon them. This series was adapted from the bestselling comic books by Culottées by Pénélope Bagleu, and it was brought to you on the screen by directors Mai Nguyen, and Charlotte Cambon De La Valette with Cécile De France. It was produced in France during the year 2019. You can catch Brazen at Kinema Jusuf Gërvalla on the 29th of July at 14.00.

This program is supported by the French Embassy in Pristina.

Variations of Isolation

The second of the four special programs is Variations of Isolation. It contains five different movies of different length, different stories, created by different directors and written by different writers. All of these movies that are a part of Variations of Isolation give the viewer a broader sense on different aspects of this year’s theme, precisely isolation itself. Variations of Isolation will be screened at Kinema Jusuf Gërvalla on the 29th of July at 12.00!

This program was curated by Marco de Blois, he is a programmer and curator of animation at the Cinémathèque québécoise, a Montreal-based film museum and archive. He organised many retrospectives for the Cinémathèque and other venues in Canada and abroad, and played a key role in the acquisition of many collections related to Canadian animation pioneers (Raoul Barré, Al Sens, Ryan Larkin, René Jodoin, etc.). He is also the programmer of the festival Les Sommets du cinéma d’animation which takes place annually in Montreal and Québec City.

This program is supported by the Embassy of Canada to Croatia and Kosovo.

YOU ANIMAL!

With a duration of 1 hour and 13 minutes, the third special program is YOU ANIMAL!. The story of this animated feature film follows Nimfa and Roger through the ups and downs of their relationship. Directed by Avid Liongoren, written by Manny Angeles, Paulle Olivenza and produced by Manny Angeles, Erickson Raymundo, Joyce Bernal. You will get the chance to see it all on any screen of your choice in our digital festival, or on the 28th of July at 12.00 at Kinema Jusuf Gërvalla!

Experimental

Apart from the other programs, the festival brings us yet another feat of special programs. One of the programs was  created by a member of our team, Panot Mahmutaj. He states that: “The outcome of experimentation is knowledge, and failure is just as valuable as success. The experimental program comes as a synonym of courage. Courage to create something out of common styles and tastes. Courage to free your mind, to try things without knowing where they will lead. This unknown territory takes us to lots of discoveries. This category is dedicated to those who try to try.”

The “Experimental” Program will all be screened on the 30th of July starting from 12:00pm at Kinemaja Jusuf Gërvalla.

Anibar Animation Festival starts on the 23rd and ends on the 30th of July! This and many more surprises will surely take place, so make sure to travel to Peja or catch our films on our digital platform!
