Special Program “WTF”

Our special program “WTF" is back for the 14th edition of Anibar!

Anibar introduces you to the special program “WTF”. A program that will help you escape the darkness and embrace the reality with 12 mind-blowing films that will make you laugh, cry and question everything. It won’t be the most comfortable or relaxing ride, but definitely an unforgettable one! 

This amazing special program is curated by Sébastien Sperer and Gala Frécon.

Sébastien Sperer, a multi-talented individual, found his way into CITIA’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival back in 1999. From programmer to selector, moderator to jury member, and speaker to various other roles, Sperer has truly immersed himself in the world of animation. Since 2011, he has been sharing the Best of Annecy at similar events, while also organizing short film screenings in unexpected locations like prisons, health care homes, bistros, and even churches.

His mission? To make animation a medium that transcends barriers and reaches every corner of society. Sperer envisions animation as a communal space where human experiences can be shared without filters or restraints. With this vision in mind, he introduced the Midnight Specials “WTF” program in 2017.

Gala Frécon has worked with a number of organizations and festivals as a film programmer and events coordinator. She has been involved with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival for several years, participating in the selection of VR works, the WTF programme and in the pre-selection of short films and graduation films. She also works for the French organization Festivals Connexion as VR Project manager and VR curator.

Driven by the captivating power of film, Sperer’s and Frécon’s goal are to promote intercultural understanding through animated films, dialogue, and transmission. And now, with WTF returning for Anibar’s 14th edition, their dream continue to unfold.
