Meet Julia Farkas: Animation Film Director

With over 2 billion views on Giphy, Julia Farkas is a Budapest-based animator, character designer, GIF creator, and AR filter maker, as well as a teacher at MOME Budapest Animation Department.

Farkas studied animation and visual communication at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art And Design in Budapest. In her work, she likes to incorporate humor and abstract thinking, especially when dealing with parallel universes. She has also collaborated with well-recognized clients like: Warner Bros, Adult Swim and MTV.

Julia Farkas is conducting a masterclass at Anibar, which is called: The Abstract Thinking in animation Filmmaking. A key objective of this masterclass is to teach participants how to listen to their intuitions and develop their artistic styles. During the tutoring session, she will give more information about her artwork and how she gained 2 billion views on Giphy with her intuitive working method. She will also show how she developed her 2 minutes long short “Big Crunch” for Adultswim from scratch. She will present sketchbook pages, gifs, and storyboards and will talk about her passionate attraction to parallel universes. In her opinion, you should always keep a sketchbook with you so you can draw wherever you go but you’ll also be able to gradually develop your own artistic style.

Here are some of the Gifs Farkas has created:
