Anibar Unveils 3 Unique Film Programs that Spark Curiosity
Palestine Animated, Shorty and Trashy, and WTF OFF
Anibar International Animation Festival officially presents three unique film programs – Palestine Animated, Shorty and Trashy, and WTF OFF. This year’s 16th edition brings 28 films from more than 16 countries to Peja’s screens, inviting audiences to challenge their perceptions of reality.
The carefully selected films for these three programs explore the absurdity of human existence, fear, pain, hope, and resilience, even in times when one feels completely forgotten by the world. Among them are powerful films that give voice to the Palestinian people, who continue to create art in the face of genocide.
The Palestine Animated program features 8 films offering a glimpse into life in Palestine and the daily struggle against the terrors of war. “Night” conveys the pain of a mother waiting for her son’s return, while “The Tower” is a touching story of life in a refugee camp told through the eyes of a young girl.
“Grandmother Wore Us Out” is an animation created by young artists in collaboration with UNRWA. Meanwhile, “Uncle, Give Me a Cigarette” is inspired by Palestinian writer Walid Daqqa’s life and explores the struggles of imprisonment. “Mariam” depicts a story of cultural heritage as an act of resistance against loss and violence.
“Memory of the Land,” “Limitless,” and “Zoo,” which deal with themes of restricted freedom and confronting harsh realities, are also included.
On the other hand, the Shorty and Trashy program, curated by Miyu Distribution, presents films like “Animals,” from Denmark, where a subway ride turns into a battle for survival. “The Night I Dance with Death” takes the audience on a journey into inner fear, while “Deadman’s Reach” shows a man’s lonely trip through the desert after lost love.
The WTF OFF program features a total of 12 films, including “Little Donnie,” an animated Donald Trump puppet terrorizing the nation; “Corn Man,” a man’s battle against ducks; and “Satellite Jockey – Paix Sociale,” portraying French President Emmanuel Macron as a disco dancer, vampire-banker and extreme jet-skie.These films represent just a few of the many cinematic journeys through thought-provoking themes that invite us to question our reality. Peja is ready to host you from July 14 to 20.
