Panel Discussion: Unpaid and Unseen
As a result of gender norms and traditional social constructs that are formed from early childhood, expectations are often created that women and girls take over family care as unpaid work. This unequal distribution of unpaid work, which intensifies in women’s adulthood, has a direct effect on their individual and professional development. This panel will discuss how traditional gender norms affect the lives of women and girls both individually and professionally, and what measures can be taken to promote a more equal division of unpaid work.
This activity/panel is supported by OSCE Mission in Kosovo and implemented by Anibar.

Panel Discussion: Rethinking Masculinity
In traditional societies, gender roles are determined by social values and norms, roles which are often rigid and create a patriarchal system with marked differences between men and women, both in the political, social and individual spheres. From this system expectations are created for men to represent masculinity in the traditional sense, creating a narrow definition of it. This rigid definition of masculinity encourages men to suppress emotions because expressing these emotions is seen as a sign of weakness, thus harming their mental and physical health. Consequently, in this context the need to challenge traditional concepts of masculinity becomes increasingly clear.
What does it mean to be a man in the context of the patriarchal system? How do traditional gender roles affect men’s emotional well-being? What are the consequences of emotional suppression? How can we promote healthy expressions of masculinity so that men internalize emotional intelligence?

Panel Discussion: Beyond Concrete: Women’s Insecurities in Public Spaces
The quality of public spaces in cities and countries should be judged by what they offer to their inhabitants – the right to live, move and work with dignity and safety. However, many women and girls in Kosovo face various forms of harassment and sexual violence in these spaces, limiting their freedom of movement but also negatively affecting the mental health and general well-being of women and girls. In this panel the discussions will be on what are some of the main challenges that women and girls face in public spaces in relation to safety and sexual harassment? What are the mechanisms for addressing sexual harassment and violence? What are the responsibilities of public institutions? How can citizens be made aware of creating a safe environment?
This activity is supported by the British Embassy in Pristina.
