1990s were dramatic years for Kosovo. The society got self-organized using peaceful and armed options of defense. These struggles coincided with the years when art has attracted increasing attention as an instrument for social movements and organizations around the world. Civil actions started to express themselves and send messages through artistic means, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, videos, graffiti other forms. While regimes changed in the end, violation of human rights in Kosovo are profoundly challenging the functioning of the state. Today, at the global scale, we witness a crisis of confidence in international institutions, government authorities, political parties, religious institutions and the media. In such an environment, many activists warn, the human rights message is flagging and may be failing.
