Anna Eijsbouts is a Dutch award winning animation director and animator specialising in puppet and cut-out stop-motion animation. Her latest films include Hate for Sale (2017) and Voting in the EU (2019). She is also a lecturer at the Utrecht School of the Arts in Animation and Illustration. Anna graduated with an MA in Animation from the Royal College of Art in 2012 after completing a BA in Animation at the Utrecht School of the Arts in 2010.

In this masterclass we will discuss the act of activism in film, especially in relation to an audience outside of your personal political bubble. How would you think if you thought like them? What will it take to convince someone who does not stand where you stand? We will discuss the importance of art as a tool for empathy, the subjective voice animation allows us to bring to the picture and the dangers of cynicism.

Throughout the day you will work on your individual ideas or find new collaborative partners. You might go on developing something you have already thought about for a long time, or work from that motivation that initial frustration can spark. At the end of the day, hopefully, you will all be a step closer to being understood, seen and heard by those you wish to convince of your point of view.
