Anibar 50/50 for 9th edition

For the upcoming 9th edition of their International Animation Film Festival, Anibar has decided to highlight the worldwide problem of gender inequality by highlighting ways to empower women in the field of animation. Animation continues to grow in popularity both in Kosovo and throughout the world. According to the organization Women in Animation, “Women make up 60% of animation students, but only 20% of animation creatives are women.” This has led to women being underrepresented in the animation industry, especially as writers, directors, and producers.

Hence, Anibar wants to use the 9th edition of the festival to make a difference by inspiring women and men in the business of animation to address gender inequality now. A more inclusive process, creatively and technically, will improve the work of both men and women, creating opportunities to expand animation’s popularity throughout the world.

By highlighting gender inequality at this year’s festival, Anibar will be able to reach a wider audience through its local and international visitors, as well as the many media members who will cover and attend the festival. Anibar plans to involve the community in this process by encouraging people outside of Anibar to take their own leading role in promoting gender equality and empowerment of women.

Anibar will be joining with the movement highlighted by Women in Animation by signing the pledge for 50/50 representation by 2025 of women in the animation field. This message of encouragement will be curated by a creative team that will produce public art through video mappings in public buildings, building two outdoor cinemas, film screenings, organizing concerts, and installing a pop-up cinema in public spaces such as parks and the city center.
