Anna Oikonomou is an animator/illustrator from the island of Kos, currently based in Athens.

She graduated from the Graphic Design and Visual Communication Department of the University of West Attica in 2022. Since then, she has been attending the MSc program 2D and 3D Animation at the same university, while also working in the creative field of animation production in Greece. Her first film, Looking for Joy, has been screened at festivals in Greece and abroad, winning the Best Student Film award in 2022 at the annual Stratos Stasinopoulos Awards by ASIFA Hellas and the Greek Film Center.

This workshop explores the rotoscoping technique in animation through the case study of the short film “Cut the Tie” by animator Anna Oikonomou. Her project was completed thanks to funding from the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA), with support from TAF – Thessaloniki Animation Festival, the Balkan Film Food Festival, and the Anibar Festival. Anna Oikonomou will speak about rotoscope animation and its benefits when animating choreographed dance, the preparation, filming and equipment she needed and she will be presenting her approach on the issues she dealt with during the process of animation.

The workshop will be held on July 20 at Arts Gallery and is open for everyone
