Hands – An Advanced Puppet Making and Stop-Motion Workshop

This workshop is ideal for advanced students with experience in animation and stop-motion techniques, though beginners with a keen interest are also welcome. Over 5 days at Anibar 2024, participants will engage in intensive 5-hour daily sessions. Participants will learn to create professional silicone puppet hands and animate them in stop-frame sequences. By the end of the workshop, these sequences will be compiled into a short animated film.

 

Thomas Volda biography

Thomas Volda (Bath, United Kingdom, 1984) graduated in Time Based Media from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, and at the New Media Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Thomas has co-directed three stop-animation short films together with his partner Ivana Volda; Simulacra (2010), Imbued Life (2019) and Remember how I used to ride a white horse (2022). The films have been screened at many festivals, and have received several acclaimed awards. He is a multidisciplinary artist, often combining animation and performance art disciplines in his work. Thomas has created puppet performances at numerous international festivals and galleries across Europe.
