"Culture for Change supports Anibar International Animation Festival - ninth edition"
Culture for Change is an EU funded project managed by the EU Office in Kosovo and implemented by Qendra Multimedia and Goethe-Institut.
The project aims at strengthening cultural organizations and public libraries across Kosovo, by directly supporting financially cultural and educational activities. One of the strategic approaches of the project is, organizing activities in other remote areas in the country, rather than capital and main big cities. At the same time, it will aim at improving involvement of local communities of all ethnic backgrounds in the cultural activities.
The Anibar International Animation Festival takes place in Peja, Kosovo and is the biggest cultural event for the Western Kosovo. It is instrumental in increasing the cultural life in Western Kosovo, contributes to economic development, creates an international youth environment and enables youth participation and commitment. During the festival in August, not only does Peja becomes the cultural center of Kosovo but Anibar also delivers activities to cities throughout smaller cities in Kosovo.
The public spaces used for screening films are: Jusuf Gervalla Cinema, Istref Begolli Theater, Karagaqi Park Lake Spaces, and the Youth Center of Peja. Main squares are used as a space for information and public performances and the city park is also utilized for concerts every night of the festival. The festival also contributes to revitalization of public spaces of the city.
The theme of this year’s festival will be Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, as women are one of the marginalized groups in society. During the festival, there will be panel discussions addressing and and promoting awareness of this topic. Anibar wants to make a difference by inspiring women and men in animation to address gender inequality. The festival is a great tool for this purpose because it brings more people to the city and gains the attention of the community and of the media which makes the delivery of this message in more effective way.
