TED Ed is TED’s youth and educational platform, whose mission is to ‘’spark and celebrate the ideas of teachers and students around the world.”. TED-ed produces short, award-winning animated videos about ideas that foster curiosity and encourage learning for millions of teachers and students around the world. TED-Ed’s animated content is informational and accessible to learners of all ages, as well as visually beautiful and artfully created.
Gerta Xhelo is the Content Producer at TED-Ed. She is an Albanian American who currently lives and works in New York. Her family moved from Albania to America at a young age in order to have more educational and professional opportunities. She attended high school in Queens, New York, and went on to study finance and marketing in college.
She expressed her love and appreciation for school on TED-Ed’s blog, saying, “I loved school! I loved everything about it,” before continuing to describe her creative approach to learning: “ I really didn’t like systematic learning. Instead, I would skip chapters and learn things out of the order they were being taught.” Her enthusiasm for her own educational experience visibly transfer into the work she does for TED-Ed as Content Producer.
Since joining TED in 2013, Gerta has co-curated and managed the editorial and visual production of over 500 educational viewers, which have reached an audience of close to one billion worldwide. Her work helps spread intellectual ideas and lessons to young people on a global scale, allowing them access to education in an enjoyable and beautiful way.
Prior to TED-Ed, Gerta was the Creative Resource Manager at The Mill, an innovative and prominent visual effects studio, where she recruited and developed talent for the 2D department. She also produces design and animation independently for Kirart, and recently began teaching a Career Strategies course at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Her presentation on her work at TedEd will be held on Friday, August the 18th, at 14:00, at cinema Jusuf Gervalla. Gerta will also be a juror at Anibar Festival as part of the Grand Jury and will be judging International, Balkan, and Music Video Competitions.
