Welcome to our common home!
All the people that are here tonight have different connections with this place, for some it’s the place where you saw your first films, for others the place of your first job, or the place where you met the people you are sharing your life with.
For us, it’s the first place where we have connected with our city Peja. We said that we can live here. In the end, this is Anibars purpose, to make Peja a more livable place.
In the strategy that we have drafted recently, as our mission we have agreed that with Anibar we will engage in breaking the social apathy through cultural activism.
Apathy – lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. Synonyms: indifference!
This place, the cinema, for all the people that are here, represents our joint memory that we share and pass it on to the future generations. For that purpose, it’s placed on the list of cultural heritage objects, not that it has any special architecture but for what it represents, our joint memory of it. It is a place within the space that we share together (within our city) that we can turn to it, and make us feel like home again.
We as Anibar are very grateful that our municipality, the assembly and our city has valued our potential, and has decided that this common space should be managed by Anibar for the next 15 years, in order to revitalize this place and return the cinema to the city.
This means that we should push the values that it represents and echo for more than 60 years, and not turn it into something lifeless, but to hold it as an instrument that reminds us that we are human.
In our journey, that is in its 8th year, in our most difficult moments, we have had great support from all of you, a support that we trust is constantly given.
As much as I wish to only celebrate tonight, I have to share with you a concern: two days earlier we have understood that the Kosovar privatization agency has decided to put our city cinema under the process of liquidation, this is because of pending procedures, which are wrongly put in the first place. Many people are already working to improve the situation.
Together, we can push this forward. To make this city a more livable place means that we are committed to give back the cinema to our city. We expect from you to join us on the screenings of the films, music concerts, educational programs, in order to prove that we can reactivate this place, not alone, but together! And to prove that the cinema belongs to the city, and its citizens. Only together we can make it.
The first action that we have undertaken is signing a petition that is waiting outside after the films, a petition that we will share with the rest of the city, which I am inviting you to sign. Through these actions to prove to everyone else that we can break the city apathy.
To conclude this, and to turn tonight’s topic, I have to say that we are very happy, and proud, to share with you the Home film, that has won the BAFTA award and many other awards.
Thank you for your patience!
